Back To The Blog!

Well I'm back, not that anyone would notice.

I find it really hard to keep blogging.. obviously since I haven't blogged in more than half a year.

It just doesn't keep my attention.

Anyway onto important things!!!

CHRIS BROWN/RIHANNA!!! :O
I can't believe shameless motherfuckers are still buying Chris Brown's albums weeks after this DISGUSTING reveal of his true self. I really feel for Rihanna but I'm almost disappointed in her for not taking public action AGAINST Brown, but you know I don't know the whole situation and it's kind of like a stockholm syndrome type thing.. I really hope the best for her and I hope that she can rise from this a changed woman and a true example for young girls of the world. I REEEALLY hope she shows the world she can stand up for herself against abuse.

I hate Chris Brown. I've always hated him but I never had a reason, and now I do have a reason.. XD I hope someone kills him I'm not kidding.

MMORPG Time!

Besides my amazing iPhone 3G, I--Like most people--do need other things to keep my attention. You may not know this, but amongst my large host of obsessions is an on-again off-again relationship with MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role-playing games).

My biggest obsession of the one's I've been checking out is Ragnarok Online II. Currently even the Korean version is still in closed BETA, but hackers have already made it English and completely playable as far as what's been developed in the Korean version so far. It's fully implemented and they've said they may actually have some features before their release in the Korean BETA program (no idea how they'd be doing that, but ok).

Not many people know about Ragnarok on a global scale. I mean many anime-loving gamers do, but not much else than that demographic. Most people know about WoW or Final Fantasy XI, so let's start thinking about that. Now imagine instead of realistic characters, your characters are in chibi style (disproportionate head:body:hands:feet ratio) and the battles are a lot cuter. I love these type of MMORPGs because they typically are very fun and give a light atmosphere which doesn't consume your life. They also look very stylish and fun.

Characters can fight monsters, form parties, evolve to new classes, switch classes, join classes, join guilds, have guild wars, fight bosses... etc. There are going to be 3 races to choose from (human-like Normans, dwarf-like Ellr, and demon-like Dimago), but for now we only can pick Norman as it is only in BETA stage. There has been no word on when the other 2 races will finally become available. Currently the game has only a few classes (Swordsman, Enchanter, Recruit, Thief, and Clown), but as with Ragnarok 1 we will definitely see that expand hugely over the next few years.

Others I downloaded include the classic Ragnarok Online 1, Secret of Solstice (boring, copycat) and Trickster Online (pretty nice, though completely 2D).

My iPhone 3G woes!

This is where I'm going to talk to you about the problems I am currently having with my iPhone 3G. These are problems relating to the 2.0 firmware which will most likely be fixed in time, but for now they are irking me pretty bad when they happen.

First of all: Slow texting. Some form of lag that only affects the text and email application as such: When multi-tasking a lot with your iPhone (or at other completely random times), if you go into the texting app and start typing a new message or reply, the keyboard input may be extremely slow. Meaning you type something, it takes like half a second then it puts it in. The good thing is you can just keep typing and it will still input everything you've wrote even it if doesn't animate it that second. The bad thing is that it makes it really awkward and uncomfortable especially if you want to change the keyboard layout to get that question mark or number 7 or what have you.

Secondly: Overall lag. The demo iPhone I tested in the store while waiting for mine to activate was very slow! I don't know how they got this to happen, but it was incredibly slow. It wasn't disfunctional, but everything it did was a little choppy. I was like "Is this how iPhone is? It makes me not want one.." LUCKILY mine is not like that at all (but the slow texting is WORSE) but it worries me that that CAN happen. The leg up iPhone has on other phones like it, it has no problem handling huge libraries of photos or music, unlike Samsung Instinct and others.

Thirdly: Applications that don't work. Well, there are currently a ton of applications out there that just aren't doing what they're supposed to. The crazy thing is it's been half a week and no updates! The Facebook application is near pathetic. If you're listening to a song from the iPod function and want to take and upload a picture, forget about it it'll just skip your music and/or crash the Facebook application all-together!! There are tons of other errors like this in many of the applications.

Finally.. I don't know if this will ever be fixed, but why is it that in Canada we can only get App store credit from credit cards!? Why are OUR iTunes cards not good enough? I don't fucking understand that. It's making me really fucking mad. Solution: Pre-paid credit cards from Shoppers Drug Mart available in  $20, $50, or $100 (I think..). Good enough right?

iGot It!

So yes, I finally got the much-anticipated iPhone 3G.

I got it Friday morning along with thousands (maybe millions?) of other people. I waited in line from 5:30am to 10am and was first in line. They were having tons of server complications however and it took until 12:30 for me to be able to walk out with the iPhone, and even then I had to go home and plug it into iTunes myself.

After that it took like 3 and a half hours to get iTunes to make it work. Everyone was trying to do it at the same time and the iTunes server crashed for like half the day. Eventually, however, I did get everything working and thank god for that.

HOWEVER... The 3G data was not working for the night (until around 1AM) on the Rogers network. I was trying to browse web pages to no avail while at work (no WiFi anymore) for minutes before I realized it just wasn't working. It's working now though so I'm looking forward to my breaks at work so I can test it out (no point using it now since I have WiFi at home).

There are several amazing applications on the app store that happen to be free! There's like 100 million applications based on remembering things, and about 80 million based on uploading photos (these are exaggerations, of course). Some photo applications use the iPhone's location services and actually show you photos people have taken near you (PRETTY CREEPY).

One app I am really loving is the Remote app. It's made very well since it's right from Apple. It uses WiFi to access your iTunes library from your iPhone and control the music playing on your computer like a remote control. It also works with Apple TV, amazingly.

I also love the FaceBook and MySpace applications, as they let you upload directly to your account (the MySpace one is a little better because you get to select the album or create a new one, in the FaceBook one you just automatically upload to "Mobile Uploads"). They're excellent for social networking and run faster than the browser for those purposes.

I'm still waiting though for Google to release a Blogger application for the iPhone! :)

iPhone 3G on Rogers... Ruinediphone.com PREVAILED!

As many of you will know, iPhone 3G is coming to Canada on the Rogers network. Since Rogers released the iPhone plan details on June 27th, it has suffered tons of scrutiny over the comparison of their plans to AT&T's plans down south in the U.S. of A...

Fortunately, a petition website called www.RuinediPhone.com has stepped in. They've gathered tens of thousands of signatures and comments from people who are unhappy with Rogers' plans that they are offering for the iPhone 3G.

I signed it of course as soon as I heard of it, but I still had every intention of getting an iPhone 3G. I didn't want to hold out and wait for better plans. What's happened today, however, means that ruinediphone.com has really gotten to Rogers, and I'm very happy about it.

I originally intended on getting the $60 iPhone plan and $20 value pack, for 150 minutes, 10,000 SMS texts, 400MB of data, unlimited access to wifi etc. NOW, however, Rogers has released a special promotion to satisfy the angry people who've signed the online petition. The promotion is: 6GB of data for $30 a month. This is pretty nice, as people who usually have WiFi access can basically call this unlimited, unless they MUST watch 6,500 youtube videos while walking down the street in a rural area.

Now the plan I am getting is the Canada-Wide My5 plan for $35 a month. This means I can talk to any 5 people unlimited talk and text regardless of where they are or where I am in the country. It comes with 250 minutes, not many texts though. I am adding the $30 for 6GB unlimited data, bringing the total so far to $65 a month plus SAF, 911 and tax. THEN I am adding the $20 iPhone pack which gives me 10,000 texts, WhoCalled, Caller ID, 6pm early evenings, and 2,500 call forwarding minutes.

This brings my total to $104 and some odd sense. Much better than the $98.26 I'd be paying for the iPhone plan and $20 pack, and now if I roam to Toronto then I won't get charged up the wazoo to call my Toronto friends that are in my My5.

I am so incredibly excited now that I could just die. I hope I don't get murdered, it'd be a very bad time because I am just about to get iPhone lmao...

iPhone 3G FINALLY Within Grasp!

Finally! I've devised a plan to get iPhone 3G, with help from my wonderful sister!

So today my sister called me and asked me to wait in line for her on Friday morning so that she can actually get one cause apparently they are only getting 25 copies at the Rogers store. I thought to myself, but I can only afford the 8GB one this friday.. I was kind of hoping she'd agree to wait a week with me and get it next friday, but she said she is not going twice... So that's a definite no-go.

Basically this meant friday is my ONLY day to get iPhone 3G any time soon. So I decided, what the hell I'll go with the 8Gb since I only have $300 in the bank and can't cover the taxes on the 16GB, but then I asked my friend Brianne to loan me $50 and she agreed to! I am so happy because now I can get the 16GB iPhone that I wanted! I won't be getting the white one however, I think I like the black one more now. The black just looks a little more slim, masculine, and sleek.

My best friend is going to get the white one (if she gets one at all) so we are going to coordinate! :)

I'm so happy about this. And I've been hearing rumours that Apple is extremely unhappy with the plans that Rogers is offering for the iPhones, so I really hope that Apple will be able to force them to give us better data rates and minutes and texts for the same price.

So the plan for Thursday night/Friday morning!
  • Have Bri and Kayla over.
  • Get $50 from Bri.
  • Go to Rogers store with Kayla around 10 and set up camp for our stake out.
  • Be the first in line at 10AM on Friday for the iPhone 3G!!!
  • Have sister meet me at Rogers so she can sign for me and get her iPhone! :)
Man this is going to be absofuckinglutely amazing.

Under The Same Sky

Why is it that every time I meet someone I like, there is some reason that is has to be difficult for us to be together?

Meet my new far-away lover, FULLFACE 2 by Sharp. It's a kickass Japanese cell phone with 1-seg TV service, video calling and a bunch of other crap. Oh and a wicked 3.2mp camera.

Unfortunately Japanese phones tend to lose a ton of functionality when placed on North-American cell phone carriers. This is why I won't ever be using an amazingly cool phone like this until I live in Japan.

However, iPhone is STILL better in my opinion (even though I love the FULLFACE 2's unique style). iPhone just has a smooth user interface that doesn't translate nearly as well in other phones. It has a very fast processor for a phone and uses a unique operating system that other phones don't have access to (sound like a Mac computer? It's just like that).

The fact that every time you press something there's a slight animation, it's just sheer genius. The anti-aliased, high pixel-density screen looks phenomenal with all sorts of icons and text. Everything is just so smooth and that's why the iPhone experience is addictive, and there is basically a whole iPhone culture in North America.
